The Reflector in Human Design | Portugal

The Reflector

Of all the energy types, the Reflector is the rarest in Human Design. Reflectors represent less than 1% of the world’s population, around 78 million people.
Something that stands out immediately when you first look at a Reflector’s chart is that they do not have any definition in their centers, and their chart appears almost completely white.

Their role in the world is to mirror or reflect the current health of the community around them. The Reflector is truly here for others. A Reflector’s energy is very open and, because of that, they take in all the energy around them and reflect it back to the world.

When a Reflector is happy, the space they are in becomes a happy space.
Reflectors who feel sad are reflecting the sadness of their community or the world around them.
A Reflector’s total openness allows them to know people and the world around them very deeply. Reflectors are flooded with so much information and energy that they need more time to make decisions. That time is precisely 28 days, or one full lunar cycle.
However, at times they may need to wait through two or more lunar cycles before knowing that their decision is truly the right one for them.

Let us look at the example of a young Reflector who had the opportunity to go and study far from home. It was a decision that would have a huge impact on her development. For a teenager to leave the comfort and protection of her parents and move somewhere around 20 hours away is not exactly an easy decision, especially for someone who had never had anyone to guide her through that decision making process. And that is exactly what happened. It took her around two months to decide, but once the decision was made, she communicated to everyone in her closest circle that she was going abroad to study and embrace a unique opportunity.

The Reflector as a Barometer of the Collective

Reflectors can be seen as the collective barometers of a group’s well being. Their great openness and the constant way they “taste” the people around them allows them, with age, to gain tremendous wisdom, which is why they often become the great figures who are able to reflect back to us whether we are on the right path or not. Energetically reflective by nature, their experience with conditioning is not as harsh when compared with the other energy types, especially Projectors.

Reflectors were, in fact, designed to be deeply conditioned by their environment and, because their charts are so inconsistent, they are able to mirror something new quite easily without suffering trauma.

Some famous Reflectors include Uri Geller, Jürgen Klopp, H. G. Wells, Jürgen Klinsmann, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Sandra Bullock.

The Strategy of Reflectors: Waiting 28 Days of the Lunar Cycle

Reflectors have completely open centers in their chart, which means their gates are extremely important, as they are the only consistent energies in their design.

Reflectors are lunar beings. The Moon takes 28 days to complete a full cycle in which it travels through each of the 64 gates. As it moves through a Reflector’s chart, the Moon creates consistent changes in their definition.

This means that Reflectors have a predictable 28 day cycle and predictable changes within that cycle based on the position of the Moon. Because of these consistent changes, Reflectors are able to anticipate more energetic days through their lunar cycle.
Because
of their symbiotic relationship with the movement of the Moon, a Reflector’s Strategy is to wait 28 days before making a decision.

However, this creates a paradox because we live in a fast paced culture, so having to wait 28 days to be sure that a decision is valid is extremely challenging.
For that reason, disappointment is the emotional theme of a Reflector.

Reflectors are often disappointed by their decisions because they do not wait long enough to gain clarity. Having been pressured to make a quick decision, they end up regretting their choices and suffering the unfortunate consequences.

On the other hand, Reflectors also experience disappointment because of their openness. Because they are deeply wise about the extent of human potential, they can clearly see when people are not living up to that potential.

When a Reflector is waiting during the 28 day period, they feel the need to talk with other people about their decisions. Reflectors do not have inner authority.
The truth of their decisions can only be known when it is reflected back to them by others.
It is therefore necessary for them to have a consistent group of friends with whom they feel good and who are willing to listen to them and support them in their decision making. A Reflector’s inconsistent energy means they need consistent auras they can trust.

Reflectors truly need to follow their only inner authority, which is whether or not they feel good. When a Reflector is in the right place, they feel comfortable. Whenever they do not feel good somewhere, whether at work or in a restaurant, it is important for the Reflector to leave. Although leaving a restaurant immediately when they do not feel good is perfectly normal, when it comes to something more significant, such as a job, it is important to wait 28 days to be sure that the decision to leave is the right one.

After a Reflector has waited 28 days before making a decision, they can take whatever action they feel is necessary. This may simply mean letting go. Even so, when they need to move, they really do need to move.

Getting a Human Design session is very useful for a Reflector. In a session, the Reflector is able to see the exact changes in their chart over the 28 days of their cycle so they can learn which days in the cycle are consistent for certain activities and decision making.

The Reflector Signature: Surprise

A Reflector’s Not-Self theme is disappointment in a world shaped by distorted Not-Self interactions. It is delightful for a Reflector to feel amazed, and amazement comes through moments of difference. They are rewarded by the Universe with surprises when they remain detached and do not identify with energies in an unwise way. Surprise for a Reflector can arise when they move from being a mere observer to becoming a participant.

It is by mirroring that difference, and sharing what they see when necessary, that they feel happy and empowered.

Since they are the barometers of their community, they are able to sense whether people are living in alignment with their energy type. Reflectors are on this planet to act as signposts for those who are ready to break away from what no longer serves them and become authentic and unique. This is their true contribution as Reflectors.
Nothing brings them more joy than giving those around them the opportunity to experience and live life as themselves.

The Magic of a Reflector

A Reflector is undoubtedly a precious and unique person, with an uncommon sensitivity, who needs to be in the right place, at the right time, and with the right people in order to live happily. Reflectors deserve honour and respect because they play a truly unique role that can help the rest of the collective make good decisions. We would live in an ideal society if a Reflector lived among us and served as a measure of our well being.

Reflectors can do anything, as long as they wait 28 days to make the right decisions. Reflectors often speak frequently because they need to talk in order to gain clarity. For this reason, listening to a Reflector is the greatest gift you can give them. They are unique and powerful beings governed by the magnificent Moon. Even their faces seem to shine more brightly in the moonlight. May all Reflectors be beacons of joy, which is a good omen for them and for us.
